The SLCC is the first point of contact for all complaints about lawyers in Scotland. They are now looking for an experienced data analyst to join their team in Edinburgh (hybrid).

​​Role profile:

  • Effectively manage our data, ensuring it meets data quality standards and is accurate and fit for purpose, and take action or make recommendations for improvement to our data management
  • Create digital processes to replace manual and semi-automated processes
  • Use standard analysis techniques to curate and automate recurring analyses to produce reliable, replicable and meaningful findings 
  • Identify and test new tools, techniques or innovative approaches to draw insight from our data
  • Report on our data internally and externally to ensure we meet our internal governance and statutory reporting requirements 
  • Present, communicate and disseminate data and conclusions in the most appropriate format for users
  • Use the most appropriate medium to visualise data to tell compelling stories that deliver insight and support decision making
  • Develop processes to enable good data management practices and compliance with data governance policies
  • Respond to queries or problems in databases, data processes, data products and services as they occur
  • Advise, coach and support other report creators and users
  • Identify and take forward opportunities for data innovation
  • Provide advice on data issues, champion the importance of data internally, and bring best practice and new approaches into the organisation to improve our work

Experience/Qualifications:

  • A problem-solving mindset, willing to be proactive and forthright in pursuing improvements to our data management and analysis
  • 2+ years’ experience working within a data analysis or business insight team or equivalent function, delivering a wide range of data solutions
  • Proven analytical skills, demonstrating accuracy and attention to detail, with a strong understanding and experience of using statistical and analytical techniques to interpret and draw conclusions from multiple data sources to support decisions and make recommendations
  • Experience of data tools including MS Excel, Power Query and Power BI
  • Strong and creative data visualisation skills and knowledge of data visualisation best practice
  • Good oral communications and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate confidently and positively at all levels
  • An ability to build successful working relationships, balance competing demands and quickly learn new analytical techniques to solve challenging problems and deploy high-quality robust solutions to meet business needs
  • Ability to develop and share technical knowledge and best practice and embrace new ways of doing things in an environment of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Ability to operate with initiative and work independently as a lead specialist in the context of agreed objectives.
  • Sound project management skills – able to get things done and deliver on time and against stated objectives and business priorities

Desirable

  • A working understanding of industry-recognised data-modelling patterns and standards
  • An understanding of data governance and its implications for data management, analysis and reporting
  • Experience of data tools including R, Python or SQL
