A unique and iconic opportunity to be part of International Beverage Holdings Ltd as Distillery Manager at their prestige Balblair Distillery in Edderton.

As the quintessential distillery, one of the oldest Distilleries in the area with history dating back to 1790, Balblair sits on a remote and unspoiled hillside overlooking the Dornoch Firth in the North of Scotland. Their whiskies are the embodiment of everything they stand for.  They use only the finest ingredients and traditional processes to craft their distinctive, characterful whisky.

As Distillery Manager reporting directly to the Group Distilleries manager, you will be joining an established team within a supporting culture who are passionate about what they do, working closely together to create a prestigious and premium brand. Sustainability will be key in this role, and you will be involved in projects aimed to achieve carbon neutrality, fostering a continuous improvement culture whilst bringing dynamicity and the ability to coach, lead and develop the team.

Above this, you will be the Brand Ambassador and face of the distillery, carrying out corporate site visits whilst managing the distillery production and warehousing activities to meet business objectives and ensure compliance with company policies and relevant management systems (including Quality, HSE and HMRC requirements).

This role represents an opportunity for a seasoned professional in the distilling industry to oversee a distillery with a deep historical legacy and a commitment to producing exceptional Scotch whisky. It involves a balance of tradition, compliance, innovation, and sustainability to uphold Balblair's iconic status.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Production of new make spirit, including planning, managing and improving all aspects of the operation of the distillery.
  • Maintain production records and process KPI’s using relevant IT Systems. Maintain process documentation to satisfy HMRC, SEPA, HSE and other regulatory bodies.
  • Plant Maintenance & Engineering Projects.  Responsibility for necessary repairs & maintenance programme and planning & management of capex projects.
  • Promote continuous improvement in operational performance, implementing industry best practice where possible.
  • Manage and own your professional development in order to achieve your work objectives and your career and personal goals.
  • Management cover will be provided at any of the other Distilleries within the group
  • Support Marketing Activities required by the business to drive long-term brand profitability which may involve periods of travel within the UK and overseas. 
  • Manage and motivate staff, recruit, train and develop staff, according to company policies and ensure relevant HR procedures are followed.     

Skills/experience required:

  • Several years’ experience within a Manufacturing Environment such as FMCG, Process Plant, Chemical or Distilling 
  • Strong leadership & management experience to manage a team of 7 operators & Assistant Distillery Manager 
  • Candidates who are dynamic, forward thinking and have a passion for Sustainability
  • Ideally candidates will have the ability to be a Brand Ambassador being the face of the distillery with strong interpersonal, communication & presentation skills.
  • You must have a continuous improvement mindset and be able to coach, influence, lead and mentor the team to achieve KPI’s and successful projects
  • You will have experience in managing paperwork, carrying out audits and managing HMRC documentation
  • Ideally have IBD General Certificate in Distillation with ability to work towards Diploma
