On Thursday 4th May, Nine Twenty Marketing and Digital will host our second sold out The Scottish Marketing Network event.
We will welcome Paul Crawford, Founder of Panther M*lk, and Nadeem Sarwar, Founder & CEO of Phlo to chat about how they built their successful brands.
We caught up with both of them to better understand what we can expect to hear from them during their talks next week. Continue reading to find out what Paul & Nadeem had to say:
Could we have a quick intro into Paul’s background before starting his current venture?
Paul started his career as a club promoter at Glasgow's Sub Club in 1991 before becoming owner in 2002. After a fruitful and fun career in the nighttime industries, Paul branched out and worked for a tech start-up but always harboured a dream to launch his side hustle Panther Milk as a brand. In 2020 he was made redundant and Panther M*lk his range of delicious oat milk cocktails was born!
What was it like for Paul to go on Dragons Den, how does he feel it impacted Panther M*lk?
Dragons' Den was daunting and nerve-wracking, but ultimately good exposure for a small-start up brand. He was glad he started to meditate that year as he meditated about 15 times that day to calm his nerves.
What can we expect Paul to talk about during his talk at The Scottish Marketing Network 2.0?
Paul will be discussing the history of the drink, the reason it has a cult following in Glasgow and how he has grown Panther M*lk's audience over the last two years.
Could we have a quick intro into Nadeem’s background before starting his current venture?
Nadeem Sarwar is the Founder and CEO of Phlo Digital Pharmacy. Nadeem was formally a career commercial banker before founding Phlo in 2019. Nadeem, alongside Phlo’s CCO Adam Hunter, also took part in the The Saltire Foundation Entrepreneurial Leadership programme in 2014 which was a blended MBA programme at Babson College in the USA, the number one ranked business school in the word for entrepreneurship. It was there that he took inspiration from the American digital pharmacy market and the innovation happening there. As someone who requires a regular prescription, Nadeem was inspired to change the way that healthcare services are delivered in the UK.
What can we expect Nadeem to talk about during his talk at The Scottish Marketing Network 2.0?
In the next meeting, Nadeem will be discussing how to build a successful brand for commercial growth. Since Phlo’s launch in 2019, they have achieved 70% YoY revenue growth, raised £10M in series A funding and acquired Truepill UK, a branch of the US unicorn healthtech business.
Nadeem will cover the “idea” behind Phlo including the market need, assessing the product/ market fit, the impact of COVID and the changing healthcare landscape. He will also discuss the steps that Phlo has taken to build Phlo’s brand into one of the fastest growing and most trusted digital pharmacies in the UK today. This includes market penetration, patient research and behavioural analysis, product development and engineering and the importance of speed and agility in the healthtech market. He will also share some fundamental lessons that the Phlo team have learned along the way when building a successful brand and how to do it in a fast-growing scale up environment when competing against large competitors.
