Nine Twenty Recruitment are proud to be partnered with Generation to help secure potential talent in IT. Generation is a global non-profit organisation that impacts people of all ages. Generation transform education to employment systems to prepare, place, and support people into life-changing careers that would otherwise be inaccessible.

We caught up with Victoria McManus, Outreach and Partnership Manager for Generation, as she answered a few questions about Generation and their upcoming training courses.

1. Who are Generation?

Generation is a global non-profit organisation founded in 2015 by McKinsey & Company. Generation impacts people of all ages across 16 countries and 187 cities. To date we have supported 57,583 graduates globally.

Generation UK and Ireland launched in 2019 working across 6 locations, with Scotland being the latest launch in November 2021.

We transform education to employment systems to prepare, place, and support people into life-changing careers that would otherwise be inaccessible. We have a methodology that we can serve hundreds of thousands - and eventually millions - of people of all ages who are unemployed, underemployed, or need to learn new skills. Our programme creates real business value for employers and lasting career impact for participants.

2. What attracted you to working with Generation?

The opportunity to bring something new to Scotland. I am incredibly proud to be part of the team launching tech boot-camps in the region and being able to support people gain and sustain access to life changing opportunities in partnership with JP Morgan, The Prince’s Trust and Microsoft.

3. What is your role at Generation?

Outreach and Partnership Manager, Scotland. My role is to work in partnership with agencies across the country to raise awareness and promote our fantastic tech opportunities to maximise engagement of candidates. I have the pleasure of working directly with partners and candidates to support them through their Generation journey and into life changing careers.

4. What type of people are you looking for in terms of your training?

The boot-camps are available for motivated and committed candidates aged 18-29 living within commutable distance to Glasgow and Edinburgh, who have a genuine passion for a tech career. Candidates must have the right to work in the UK and work less than 16 hours per week/zero-hour contract.

Applicants must not possess a university degree that translates to the UK framework or be engaged in full time education.  Focussing on these criteria enables us to help those who might find it most challenging to transition into work.

5. Can you tell us a bit about your upcoming training courses?

Generation boot-camps are currently being held virtually to support wider access across the country. Recruitment is underway for our new I.T Support boot-camp which offers 8 weeks of instructor lead training within a virtual classroom. The programme offers mentorship with a holistic view of support throughout the boot-camp and beyond.

The course runs Monday - Friday 9-5, we can support with laptops and Wi-Fi access if required to reduce any digital barriers, connection to employers with a commitment to supporting all graduates gain access to employment opportunities. It’s a fantastic way of getting full support into a new career.
