Nine Twenty Finance recruiter Lisa McGlave caught up with her client Michael McAllister, Head of Scottish Payroll at Mazars, to find out a bit more about his background and experience with Mazars as well some upcoming legislation changes that our Finance & Accountancy clients and candidates should be sure to read up on.
First things first Michael, what do Mazars do?
We deliver benefits to our clients and contacts, through our customised and innovative solutions, addressing all challenges with a dedicated team of experts who combine market knowledge with technical expertise. With a collaborative, relationship based approach and our comprehensive range of payroll outsourcing services we support businesses throughout Scotland, the UK and internationally across 79 countries, whatever their size or stage of development.
And what about yourself, can you tell us about your experience working in the payroll industry?
I lead on delivery of payroll solutions in Scotland managing a large team of dedicated payroll specialists based in Glasgow. l have been involved with the Mazars payroll bureau since 2013 and have extensive expertise in all payroll matters including payroll software selection, implementation, payrolling benefits in kind, expats, auto enrolment, termination payments and redundancy together with a knowledge of employment law.
On a day to day basis, I work closely alongside my clients to ensure I am aware of any current or future matters that may affect their payroll position, providing pro-active advice to reduce risk where possible.
My experience, together with a client centric focus, means I am ideally placed to ensure that clients in Scotland benefit to the full from their relationship with Mazars National Payroll Services.
Can you tell us a little bit more about Mazars in Glasgow?
Mazars UK launched the Scottish team in 2013 and have grown from strength to strength. The team now look after some of Scotland’s most prestigious clients, providing a fully managed and first class payroll service to all. Through successful recruitment the team are now regarded as one of the most experienced teams in Scotland, combining experience from both bureau and accountancy environments over a number of years.
Unlike other payroll providers, we handle the process from start to finish in one of our four dedicated payroll centres across the UK. We get to know our clients as we can only provide the best service possible if we have a deep understanding of your business. Most importantly, our service is based on trust.
Upcoming legislation changes: Apprenticeship Levy
HM Revenue & Customs are introducing the apprenticeship levy on 6 April 2017. The levy requires all employers operating in the UK, with a pay bill over £3 million each year, to invest in apprenticeships. The levy will be based on the pay subject to national insurance and will be charged at 0.5%.
My team at Mazars will be handling the implementation and ongoing compliance requirements of the apprenticeship levy for all his clients.
Upcoming legislation changes: National Living & Minimum Wage
HM Revenue & Customs have aligned the minimum wage increase from 01 October to 01 April of each year. This means that both the “Living” and “Minimum” wage will increase for all UK employers on 01 April 2017.
