Lisa McGlave
Senior Consultant- Accountancy and Finance
Where did it all begin?
Before I began my career in recruitment I worked as sales account manager for a software development agency for around 6 years selling software systems.
I felt that recruitment would be quite a natural progression and so in March 2014 I joined a recruitment agency as an accountancy recruiter. Soon after, I was promoted to begin recruiting for more senior financial roles.
I spotted a great opportunity with Nine Twenty Recruitment and moved over to become their senior consultant for accountancy and finance, and have managed to build my network within Glasgow ever since!
What industries do you recruit for and what type of candidates are you looking for?
The industry that I currently recruit for at Nine Twenty is Accountancy and Finance.
Within this industry I have previously worked for a number of contract and permanent roles, and currently have a number of these roles to be filled! I recruit across a full spectrum of roles from transactional accountancy all the way up to finance directors, and of course, everything in between. I have had extensive training in recruiting roles at either end of the spectrum so always feel that I can deliver the best services to my clients!
I am currently the only employee at Nine Twenty who works on accountancy and finance roles so my network of clients and candidates is really important to me. I have solely built my network and I think this has been a real success as I have exclusive contracts with a lot of my clients along with repeat business.
I quite often take on a lot of business through candidate and client referrals which is a nice way for me to build my network and maintain relationships.
Recruitment trends within accountancy and finance have remained relatively consistent although there are a few things that I have picked up on. I suppose this is the case with lots of areas of recruitment, but the market has become a lot more candidate driven.
These days, accountancy and finance candidates are happy where they are and are often the ones dictating where things go in terms of salary, pensions and benefits. Clients are now having to respond to the needs and wants of clients, and this is definitely a shift in the market that I have noticed over the past few years.
I have also noted that the most popular roles are within chartered accountancy firms, and primarily these range from Part Qualified Accountants, Senior Accountants, Audit, Tax and Payroll.
