Rachel Baxter
Senior Account Manager- Technology
Where did it all begin?
I graduated from Glasgow Caledonia University with a degree in Business Management and went straight into a 6 month researcher role at a global recruitment company which led on to their graduate scheme. I spent a year and a half working on larger accounts, dealing with enterprise and PLC clients before moving to Nine Twenty 3 years ago.
I began my career at Nine Twenty as an Account Manager for the Technology department however was quickly promoted to Senior Account Manager. I primarily work with RPO and retained clients who I have managed to build a successful relationship with over the years.
What industries do you recruit for and what type of candidates are you looking for?
As part of my RPO and retained client base I work with a number of SME tech business’s, established start-ups and lifestyle businesses. I’m focused on building strong relationships and managing these accounts as opposed to constantly bringing on new clients.
I really enjoy working on a variety of roles from graduates all the way up to board level roles and placing CTO’s, the majority of these being software developers. I have to say, software developers are the roles I am usually trying to fill but I am always really flexible with different software languages. If you can write code, and have a good degree behind you, I’m most likely going to be able to place you!
I work a split desk and along with dealing with my RPO and retained clients, I work with placing a lot of IT contractors. These are also retained clients and are based all over the UK!
I think the technology recruitment market has definitely changed. I feel it’s a lot more candidate driven and there is more of a focus on companies bringing in IT graduates so they grow and progress internally. There has been a few cases where I have placed graduates within a business and they have come back to me as mid-level developers looking for more senior roles!
I really enjoy working with RPO and retained clients. I find it a lot more rewarding as I am in very close contact with my clients and candidates and so I’m able to see how things progress. I really enjoy helping to build IT teams as I get to know everyone I’ve placed, making it more personal which is really satisfying!
